Vietnam's Mekong Delta to heighten pangasius fish production

Measures to boost cooperation in pangasius fish production have been discussed in Can Tho City by pangasius fish raisers, processors and researchers in Vietnam's Mekong Delta, according to local news Thursday (Dec 22).

The workshop, organized by the Mekong Delta Development Research Institute on December 21, attracted participation of pangasius fish producers and processors in Can Tho and An Giang provinces as well as a numbers of researchers from Can Tho University and Can Tho Aquatic Department.

The participants agreed that all stakeholders involving in production, processing and export of pangasius fish need to cooperate more closer in order to reduce risks and increase higher incomes.

Meanwhile, prices of pangasius fish material for processing fell to VND25,500-26,000 (US$1.21-1.24) per kilogramme from VND28,500 (US$1.36) in November.

The Mekong Delta has 6,000 hectares for pangasius fish growing, producing one million tonnes of fish this year.

In the first 11 months of this year, Vietnam earned US$5.6 billion from seafood export, including US$1.7 billion from pangasius fish, said the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers.
