Russia December cattle numbers down 1.4 percent on-year
  
 
The total number of cattle in Russia on December 1 was 21.6 million, 1.4 percent less than a year earlier, the State Statistics Service reported Monday (December 22).


The number of cows fell by 1 percent to 9.3 million. The number of pigs increased by 2.2 percent to 17.3 million while sheep and goats increased by 4.3 percent to 22.2 million.


On the date the population kept 48.3 percent of all cattle, 40.5 percent of all pigs and 52.3 percent of all sheep and goats on small private holdings. The rest of cattle, pigs and sheep and goats were on large-scale farms.


The production of liveweight cattle and poultry in January to November has increased by 7.9 percent on year to 7.9 million tonnes.
