Global markets
By December 19, Peru's north-central catch reached 1.88 million tonnes, accounting for 75% of the fishing quota. Large fishmeal producers cut prices amid anticipated supply pressure and weakening European demand.
Over the week, FOB prices of Peru's FAQ fishmeal slipped to US$1,100/tonne.
Market analysis
Softening global prices hurt domestic fishmeal trade, where traders readily negotiated prices in a bid to clear inventories.
Market forecast
With little signs of imminent pre-holiday restocking to perk up the market, fishmeal prices may head lower in the week ahead.
