6.1 million poultry culled in South Korea due to bird flu, 18 farm cases total

 
 

South Korea's Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs said about 6.1 million poultry has been culled in the country to prevent the spread of highly pathogenic bird flu, with 18 farm-related cases total since November, Yonhap News Agency reported.

 

Of the culled poultry, 4 million were chickens and 1.2 million were quails.

 

South Korea's law states that all poultry within a 3 km radius from a farm with a confirmed highly pathogenic bird flu case must be culled,

 

Bird flu has spread quickly in the South Jeolla province, with six infections reported. Another four cases were reported at North Joella province.
