Japan's compound feed output lowers 0.8% on-year

After two months of on-year gains, the total compound feed output of Japan in October dropped 0.8% to 2.06 million tonnes, the agricultural ministry said Tuesday (Dec 21).

Japan, which produces very little corn of its own, is the world's biggest importer of the crop, the main ingredient of animal feed. The US is the top supplier.

Japan's produces around 24.5 million tonnes of compound feed annually. Feed output slipped 7% in April due to the effects of the March 11 earthquake and tsunami, but recovered from June.
