India eyes record 2011-12 wheat yield
India will possibly reap a record wheat harvest in 2011-12, along with favourable weather and a larger crop area, said Farm Minister Sharad Pawar on Monday (Dec 19).
"The crop looks better than last year and [the output] should be a record," Minister Pawar stated.
India, the world's second-largest wheat producer, harvested 85.93 million tonnes of wheat last year.
Pawar added that the output of pulses will likely be around 18 million tonnes, almost the same as last year.
