Brazil's Q3 poultry, pork slaughter up

Brazil slaughtered 1.347 billion chickens in 2011's third quarter, 2.8% higher than in the previous quarter and 5% more than a year before while pork slaughter reached 9.065 million, 5.2% and 9.1% greater than 2011's second quarter and 2010's third quarter, respectively.

Both poultry and pork slaughter were the highest to date, the Brazilian Census Bureau (IBGE) said Thursday (Dec 15).

Beef slaughter rose 3.1% against the second quarter of 2011 and fell 1.6% compared to the third quarter of 2010, to 7.284 million heads. The increase against the second quarter of 2011 was the first after four consecutive quarterly drops.
