Ukraine expected to supply grains to Jordan

 

 

Ukrainian OJSC State Food Grain Corporation and the Government of Jordan have reached an agreement to forward deliveries of Ukrainian grains to the country.

 

According to the press service of the Corporation, the agreement was reached within framework of the Ukrainian delegation visit to Jordan.

 

Ukraine plans to deliver large-scale grain volumes to the country until the end of 2011/12 marketing year. The annual wheat production in Jordan totals 10,000-15,000 tonnes, which is 5% of the consumption of Jordan only.

 

The Ukrainian delegation with Igor Filippenko, Head of State Food Grain Corporation, met with Abdel Karim Degmi, Chairman of the Parliament of Jordan, and officials of the Kingdom of Jordan: Sami Kammuh, Minister of Industry and Trade, and Ahmad al-Khattab, Minister of Agriculture.

 

The Ministry of Agriculture expressed interest in purchasing of wheat seeds from the southern regions of Ukraine, which are adapted to the hot climate.

 

According to the latest forecast of the International Grains Council, in 2011/12 marketing year wheat imports to Jordan will total one million tonnes and barley at 0.4 million tonnes.
