Uruguay refocuses beef exports to US
Uruguay exported more beef to the US than to Russia in November, a trend that had stopped since September 2007.
Uruguay exported 18,847 tonnes of beef in November, with nearly 40 percent or 7,422 tonnes shipped to the US and Canada.
Exports to Russia, however, reached only 2,331 tonnes due to payment and credit difficulties as well as high Russian imported beef stocks.
Russia was Uruguay's largest export market in volume in the calendar year to November, with beef shipments increasing nearly 400 percent on-year to 88,571 tonnes.
Chilled beef exports declined 15 percent on-year due to reduced orders from the EU. On the other hand, frozen beef exports increased 3 percent on-year.
