Bayer and Nestlé to collaborate on sustainable development of China dairy
Bayer and Nestlé have signed a collaboration agreement to help facilitate sustainable development of China's dairy farming industry by enhancing the capabilities of farmers through the Nestlé Dairy Farming Institute (DFI) at Shuangcheng, Harbin, Heilongjiang.
To help increase the knowledge and skills of dairy producers in China, under this three-year partnership, Bayer will develop training content in three key focus areas including parasite control, calf intestinal health, and farm hygiene. Bayer will also share its expertise in related areas such as udder health, fertility and metabolic health.
"In the interest of furthering animal health and well-being, we continually engage with farmers around the world to better understand their challenges and needs. Beyond offering innovative veterinary solutions, we also support them with technical education and good farming practices," said Rinse Boersma, Global Marketing Director of Dairy Cattle, Bayer Animal Health. "China is one of the fastest growing dairy markets in the world, and will continue to grow in the next decades. Sustainability and the health of animals are essential elements for the continued growth and transformation of the Chinese dairy industry. We are pleased to be able to assist with our expertise."
André Glatow, Head of Bayer Animal Health in China, added, "Bayer is committed to helping Chinese dairy farmers to meet the country's growing demand for quality dairy products in a sustainable manner. Healthy cows make a healthy farm. And a healthy x`farm produces safe and high quality dairy products. Together with Nestlé, we can help Chinese dairy professionals to achieve this."
Over the course of the three-year collaboration, an estimated 3,000 farming professionals will be trained at Nestlé DFI, benefitting about 1,500 farms throughout China.
"Nestlé DFI is very pleased to partner with Bayer. We believe the contribution from Bayer will improve the knowledge and capabilities of the new generation of Chinese dairy farm managers, who are trained at Nestlé DFI and will return to their work posts to make a change. Collectively they will become a force that modernises China's dairy farming practices," said Zheng Zhang, General Manager of Nestlé DFI.
