Bayer to launch herbicide-resistant soy in US
Bayer AG will launch a herbicide-resistant technology for soy in the US in 2009, Bayer CropScience said on Tuesday (Dec 16) at a research conference in Chicago.
The US will be the first market where the new soy technology is introduced.
By next year, soy seed will be available for an area of some 400,000 hectares. According to Bayer, glyphosate-resistant weeds have been confirmed in 19 US states, making innovative alternatives imperative.
Bayer CropSciences said that more than 85 American seed companies have licensed the LibertyLink technology for soy to date and will offer new soy varieties to farmers in the US in 2009.
