Ukraine 2009 winter grain area up 3.5 percent
Ukraine's winter grain acreage for the 2009 has increased 3.5 percent on-year to 8.25 million hectares, said the State Statistics Committee on Tuesday (Dec 16).
Wheat acreage had decreased 2.4 percent to 6.5 million hectares, while barley acreage rose 48.6 percent to 1.27 million hectares.
Rapeseed acreage fell 6.2 percent to 1.44 million hectares.
Ukraine harvested about 55 million tonnes of grain bunker weight this year, but analysts are expecting the 2009 crop to fall to 37 million tonnes.
