USDA confirms certification programme for dairy exports to EU

 
 

USDA's Agricultural Marketing Service has concluded a voluntary certification programme that helps US dairy exporters to meet new EU sanitation requirements for dairy products.

 

The "European Health Certification Programme" sets new requirements for a maximum somatic cell count (SCC) of 400,000 per millilitres at the farm level, incorporating flexibility allowed by the EU in its member-states.

 

The European Commission's Food and Veterinary Office (FVO) recommended the new regime in January, based on an audit of US compliance with its drug residue requirements. However, FDA didn't inform the industry until August.
