Indonesia's shrimp exports to US up

In January-September of this year, Indonesia's shrimp exports to the US rose but fell to Japan and the EU, compared to the same period last year.

Exports to the US rose 15.45% to 54,000 tonnes but fell 2% to 22,416 tonnes, said Johan Suryadharma, the chairman of the fishery product processing companies.

A share fall of 11% was recorded in the exports to the EU during the same period, Suryadharma said but gave no export figure.

Head of the East Java fisheries office Kardani said revitalization of fish ponds launched since early this year had been sluggish in that region, one of the largest shrimp producer in the country.
