Vietnam doubles tuna exports to international markets
 

 

As compared from last year, Vietnam has doubled its tuna export to 87 international markets in 2011, the Vietnam Association of the Seafood Exporter and Producers (VASEP) said.

 

The US is main markets for Vietnam-sourced tuna, contributing 46% of total export value of the Southeast Asian country. In January-October, it imported tuna worth US$145 million from Vietnam.

 

EU is the second largest market as Vietnam is exporting its tuna products to 21 countries within the bloc. The leading importers of Vietnam-produced tuna are Germany, Italy and Belgium.

 

Vietnam and Japan set up joint venture for catching and processing tuna and its products is being exported worldwide.

 

The VASEP called on the government to build policies encouraging cooperation between tuna fishermen and processor, helping to increase competitiveness of Vietnam-sourced tuna in international markets.
