Brazil all set for chicken exports to China in two months

Brazil will need at least 60 days to assess potential chicken sales to China, which reopened its market to the Brazilian product last week, Agriculture Minister Reinhold Stephanes said on Tuesday (Dec 9, 2008).

Stephanes said the first shipments to China should be made later this month.

He also said there is an indication the Chinese will open their market to Brazilian pork and it is also necessary for Brazil to open up new markets in face of the global financial crisis.

The minister is expecting a troubled year for the Brazilian agribusiness in 2009 if Brazil fails to create new export channels.
