Ukraine to augment corn, soy sowing areas
An increase in the share of corn and soy sowing areas in Ukraine's crop rotation has been declared by Sergei Kvasha, Director of the Department of economic development and agrarian market of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.
According to him, the present climate conditions can lead to completely different structure of winter crops sowing areas. Previously Ukraine had 3.6 million hectares of corn sowings, but in these conditions the sowings will total 4-5 million hectares.
According to Vladimir Klimenko, President of the Ukrainian Grain Association, corn may become the strategic crop for Ukraine, because corn supports cattle livestock industry and biodiesel production.
As a reminder, due to adverse weather conditions, one third of winter crop sowings will need resowing works in the spring. Experts forecast that agrarians will resow winter crops primarily with corn and soy.
