Delaware Valley University, US secures grant for new poultry science centre
Delaware Valley University in Pennsylvania, US has received a US$2,025,000 Redevelopment Assistance Capital Programme (RACP) grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Budget.
The funds will support the construction of a new poultry science centre on the university's main campus in Doylestown, Pennsylvania.
The planned facility will feature modern research laboratories, classrooms, and demonstration spaces designed to foster collaboration among students, faculty, and industry experts. Additionally, it will have the capacity to produce 5,000 birds every six to eight weeks, positioning the university as a key contributor to poultry research and education.
"We are thrilled to receive this vital funding that accelerates our ability to build a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to advancing poultry research, education, and innovation," said Delaware Valley University President Benjamin Rusiloski, PhD. "This grant, along with the cornerstone gift from Mountaire Farms, Inc., puts us significantly closer to breaking ground for the new facility. The need for research, innovation, and teaching in poultry science is critical to support the ongoing growth in the poultry industry in the United States and worldwide."
In July 2023, Mountaire Farms, a leading poultry producer, partnered with the university to provide funding for the project. The collaboration underscores the industry's focus on developing a skilled and educated workforce for the future.
"We are excited about the opportunity to work directly with Delaware Valley University to ensure that the poultry industry will have a well-educated and trained workforce moving forward," said Phillip Plylar, president of Mountaire Farms.
State Senator Steve Santarsiero and state Representative Tim Brennan played key roles in securing the grant for the university. Senator Santarsiero highlighted the institution's pivotal role in agricultural science education.
"Delaware Valley University, as a leader in agricultural science education, is uniquely positioned to meet the growing need for higher education programs focused on poultry science," Santarsiero said. "The new Poultry Science Centre will provide students with hands-on educational experience to successfully join this growing workforce while providing continuing education to local processors and industry professionals."
