China's 2011 crop acreage rises 0.6%
China's grain planting area reached about 106 million hectares in 2011, up 0.6% over the previous year, the Ministry of Agriculture said Monday (Dec 5).
The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said Friday that China saw a bumper harvest of grain this year, with its output rising to a record high of 571.21 million tonnes, an on-year increase of 4.5%.
The strong harvest marked eight consecutive years of growth for China's grain output.
Production of summer grain, early rice and autumn grain stood at 126.27 million tonnes, 32.76 million tonnes and 412.18 million tonnes this year, up 2.5%, 4.5% and 5.1% on-year, respectively.
