Finland's organic beef production demand up

Tamminen's organic beef volume increases to about 300,000 kilogrammes in Finland with a demand for more than a threefold amount is expected, Managing Director Pasi Tamminen said.

Finnish retail chain S Group sells approximately 25 tonnes of organic beef per month. Ilkka Alarotu, of S Group, says the amount could multiply if the supply was sufficient.

Finnish food industry company Atria plans to increase its organic meat selection in the winter 2012 as a result of good demand. At the moment, a total of 1.5% of the company's beef production is organic. Atria wants to increase the share by a percentage point per year.
