Ukrainian soy production may reach four million tonnes

 

 

Ukraine's total volume of soy production may reach four million tonnes from the a total area of two million hectares by 2015, according to Victor Timchenko, President of the Ukrainian Association of Soybeans Producers and Processors (ASPP).

 

The export of soy from the Ukraine in 2015 may reach 1.1 million tonnes against 800,000 tonnes in 2011.

 

During the first nine months of this year soy were exported to Iran in the total amount of 198,600 tonnes, Italy at 1616000 tonnes, Germany at 55100 tonnes, Syria at 56600 tonnes, Poland at 11,900 tonnes, Turkey at 379000 tonnes and US at 8900 tonnes.

 

The president of ASPP also noted that active investments during the last five years contributed to the dynamics of continuous growth of soybean industry in Ukraine, and the significant increase of cultivation area of this crop.

 

"In 2011, it has been already harvesting 2.3 million tonnes from 112,750 hectares with the figures of yielding capacity about 20 t/ha. In 2009, by volume of soy production we came in first place among the EU countries and the CIS while in 2010 we reach the eighth place among the 75 countries of the world," Timochenko said.

 

He was also noted that the current capacity of processing soy in Ukraine account for 1.7 million tonnes against 160,000 tonnes in 2003.
