Vietstock 2008: Staging the booming feed and livestock markets to the world

Vietnam this year staged its rich promise to the feed and livestock sectors in Asia and in the world with its booming agricultural markets through the Vietstock 2008, held in the National Convention Centre in Hanoi on November 25-27, 2008.
The third Vietstock was presented by the Department of Livestock Production and AMB Events. Dr. Hoang Kim Giao, director of the Department of Livestock Production, said that Vietstock 2008 plays a crucial role in promoting the development of feed and livestock industry of the country. He pointed out that the convention will pave way for the introduction of new technology to improve productivity, quality and bio-safety for feed and livestock products.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) officials said that Vietstock will definitely boost Vietnam's image as a key market for the global feed and livestock trade.
For the first time, Vietstock Expo & Forum hosted two major conferences - the Vietnam Feed & Livestock Industry Conference and the Vietnam International Aquafeed Conference. The conferences provided very significant avenues for technology transfer and the sharing of experiences among those involved in feed and livestock industries.
Further, the Department of Livestock Production hosted the first Vietnam Feed & Livestock Industry Summit.This brings together the top integrators and feed millers to discuss the government's strategies for the livestock industry in 2020.
MARD cited that some of its general objectives by 2020 are: to ensure that the share of livestock production will account for more than 42 percent of agricultural production, animal diseases will be totally controlled, waste treatment systems should be present in each livestock farm and that growth rate will be around 8-9 percent per year.
Another first in Vietstock is the Vietnam Feed & Livestock Industry Awards which recognizes industry leaders (individuals and companies) for their contributions to the industry. Some of these major awards include Industry Achievement Award, Oustanding Layer-Breeder Farm Award, Outstanding Broiler Farm Award, Outstanding Meat Processor Award and Outstanding Feed Ingredient Product.
Industry experts, farmers and representatives from both the private and public sectors expressed that Vietstock allowed foreign enterprises to introduce their technological developments and veterinary practices to the local market. This year, there were around 100 companies from 21 countries which participated.
Some of the companies present were Japfa Comfeed Vietnam, Munters, Big Dutchman, Kemin, Stolz Asia, Adisseo, Kemira and GSI.
