France to seek legal measures to ban GMO
The French government, after the highest administrative court in the country lifted the moratorium on MON810 corn, will seek legal measures to ban GMO, French President Nicolas Sarkozy said on Tuesday (Nov 29).
Sarkozy commented that Environment Minister Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet and Agriculture Minister Bruno Le Maire are considering a new safeguard clause to prevent the appearance of the GMO in the country.
On Monday, the court ruling overturned a ban on genetically modified corn, produced by US biotech group Monsanto. The court discarded the ban as insufficiently justified.
