Australian wheat export hits record despite bad weather

Australia exported 18.5 million tonnes of wheat in the last season despite the bad weather which brought up quality concerns.

The 2010-11 wheat export figure was about half a million tonnes higher than the record set in 2003-04.

WEA chief executive officer Peter Woods said farmers were very fortunate wheat prices had remained high in the past year and that the US had largely pulled out of the feed grain market due to tight domestic corn supplies.

The WEA said a record 10.8 million tonnes of wheat was shipped to Asia.
