India wheat area reaches 11.5 million hectares in November               

 

The area of land planted with wheat rose marginally in India as of Nov. 28, to 11.5 million hectares compared with 11.4 million hectares a year ago, the federal government said Friday (Nov 28).

 

In India the sowing of wheat usually starts in early November, and the harvest in March. Wheat sowing started early this year.

 

The total oilseed area planted in the Oct 1-Nov 28 period rose to 7.6 million hectares compared with 7 million hectares a year ago, the government said in a statement.

 

India's rapeseed planting during the winter season has risen to 5.8 million hectares compared with 5.3 million hectares a year ago.
