19th Arbor Acres training school held in Egypt

The 19th round of Aviagen's Arbor Acres® training school took place in the City of Hurghada, Egypt, on October 2015.

The event was organised by Misr Poultry Grandparents, the local Arbor Acres distributor for over 30 years and a part of the Cairo Poultry Company (CPC).

The primary objective of the school is to educate trainees and ensure that they are aware of the most current practises when managing Arbor Acres birds. This is in regconising the changing needs of birds due to improved selections which offer better performance.

This year, the school was attended by 35 trainees, consisting of farm managers, engineers, nutritionists and hatchery specialists, along with with 15 company owners.

Arbor Acres specialists, professors from the University of Cairo and CPC personnel dealt with topics such as recent disease challenges and prevention with a major focus on biosecurity, bird physiology and behaviour, and modern lighting advice.

Other subjects included the modern art of male poultry management, prevention of floor eggs and maintenance of chick quality in the production chain. There was also a presentation with an in-depth nutritional overview and focus on the needs of Arbor Acres birds, as well as three live case studies on chick brooding, hatchery troubleshooting and disease identification.

For the first time, the event featured a presentation about the Arbor Acres brand and its worldwide distribution network.

"We believe that our long term relationship with Arbor Acres ensures that we can work together to achieve our joint goal of educating the new generations who are in management positions today," said Dr. Khaled Mostafa, CPC's general manager of the Grandparent division. "They are the future of the poultry industry in Egypt and we are committed to ensuring that they, along with their teams, are up to date with the latest in the poultry industry."

"The event was put together with meticulous attention, from the venue to the selection of speakers and subjects, including the popular live case studies," said  Puzant Dakessian, the international commercial manager for Arbor Acres. "50 years ago, Arbor Acres pioneered the introduction of production courses, believing in the power of education (which) these events show our continual commitment to."
