Russian officials to evaluate Brazil's beef processing facilities

Brazil's meat inspection system will be evaluated by Russia's Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance, or Rosselkhoznadzor during a visit of 12 beef processing facilities in the states of São Paulo, Goiás and Mato Grosso in the coming days.

Brazil is hopeful that, after the visit, Russia will lift a ban on Brazilian beef in place since May.

Meanwhile, a mission of European veterinarians will start on Tuesday (Dec 6) inspections at pork processing plants in the southern Brazilian state of Santa Catarina.

Brazil has never been authorized to sell pork to the EU, the world's second largest market, with annual production of 22.5 million tonnes and consumption of 20.5 million tonnes.
