Diamond V appoints new members to Ruminant Team

Diamond V's beef industry expertise continues to grow with two new members joining its Ruminant Team.

"I'm happy to introduce Col. Leon "Sam" Barringer (pictured, right), DVM, as the newest member of the Diamond V team," Darin Henry, director of ruminant business strategy and food safety, said. "In his new role as technical service specialist, Dr. Barringer will be responsible for providing technical assistance to Diamond V ruminant teams and will play a key role in the company's food safety initiatives."

Henry noted that Dr. Barringer is a highly decorated military leader, trained Public Health Officer in the US Air Force, and large animal veterinarian specialising in calf health management, epidemiology, evidence-based population medicine, disease outbreak investigation, and vaccinology.

"Sam has been a primary investigator in field-based research for some of the leading pharmaceutical companies," Henry added. "He has helped advance animal health and welfare through veterinary medicine and on-farm employee and ownership training in the areas of animal handling, wellness planning and protocol development, and environmental management."

Dr. Barringer earned his DVM from the University of California, Davis. After graduation and service in private practice in Pennsylvania, he became an Associate Professor at West Virginia University (WVU). He later joined Pfizer Animal Health, working as director of strategic accounts in the Dairy and Feedlot Business Unit. Most recently, Dr. Barringer worked for Merck Animal Health as a technical service lead for the company's "Top 30" strategic ruminant accounts. He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the American Association of Bovine Practitioners, and the author / co-author of many peer-reviewed papers and quoted expert in dairy and beef industry media.

"In addition to his work in animal science, Dr. Barringer has enjoyed a distinguished 30-year career in the US Air Force and US Army, having been deployed to 25 countries and earning numerous medals and awards for exemplary performance in combat. It is an honor and privilege to have him as a part of the Diamond V team," Henry said.

Chad Davis, district sales manager for Diamond V, announced the appointment of Cory Leaver (pictured, left) as regional sales manager. "In his new role, Cory will focus on growing Diamond V's beef business in his home state of Nebraska, as well as Colorado and Kansas," Davis stated.

Prior to joining Diamond V, Leaver was employed for 10 years by Zoetis, working directly with high-profile large feedlots as part of the company's Beef Strategic Account Management Group. Leaver's legacy with Zoetis started in 1989 when he accepted a territory sales position in Nebraska with The Upjohn Company, which became Pharmacia, later a part of Pfizer Animal Health.

"The company names might have changed but Cory's commitment to his customers did not," Davis said.

Leaver's experience in the beef industry goes far beyond animal health. Prior entering that field, he worked in carcass sales for IBP Inc. in Dakota City, Nebraska and Boise, Idaho.

Leaver received his BS in Animal Science from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln (UNL).
