Evonik to increase methionine capacity

Press Release

Evonik Industries will step up its DL-methionine capacities at the company's Antwerp site in Belgium to meet the increasing global demand for methionine.

Evonik has consistently expanded its DL-methionine business over the past years. The Antwerp site has an annual output of 120,000 tonnes, and the EUR300 million (US$380.5 million) project is the largest investment in the company's portfolio for the Chemicals Business Area.

Evonik has also recently announced that it would reactivate the predecessor plant in Antwerp after an extensive overhaul.

Evonik has an annual methionine production capacity of about 350,000 tonnes, and Antwerp is among the company's major production sites.

Evonik Industries is a key supplier of crucial amino acids for animal feed, and has businesses in more than 100 countries. Its sales reached EUR14.4 billion (US$18.26 billion) in 2007.
