Research study on rapeseed as feedstuff
The Shanghai Academy of Agricultural Sciences (SAAS), the government of Alberta and the Alberta Research Council (ARC), alongside private sector partners will study the potential of rapeseed as feedstuff.
The aim of the research will be to improve the productivity of rapeseed-based feed, improving its nutritional value and also reducing the amount of phosphates present in the livestock manure in a bid to minimise the industry's environmental impact.
The partners involved will use bioscience technology to modify North American rapeseed so that the feed crop will contain phytase, an enzyme which would help livestock digestion.
