Brazil's 2007 poultry production up 11.5 percent
                   
 

Brazil produced 1.12 billion chickens in 2007, up 11.5 percent on-year, according to the Brazilian Census Bureau (IBGE) on Wednesday (Nov 26, 2008).

 

Exports totalled 3 million tonnes, up 16.3 percent from 2006. The average price per tonne was US$1,403, up from US$1,130 in 2006.

 

Brazil is the world's fourth largest chicken producer after China, the US and Indonesia. Brazil is also the world's third largest chicken meat producer after the US and China.

 

IBGE figures also showed that Brazil had 35.94 million hogs in 2007, up 2.2 percent from 2006.
