Beijing's Xinfadi wholesale market halts sales and storage of frozen and aquatic products

Beijing News said the Xinfadi wholesale market in Beijing, China, which was linked to a COVID-19 outbreak in June, has stopped sales and storage of frozen and aquatic products, Reuters reported.

The Chinese state-run news said Xinfadi market's stock of refrigerated meat, seafood and frozen products were disposed, as the market disinfected over 100 cold storages and shut down power to the facilities.

On November 25, a Chinese official said workers without proper protection could be infected with COVID-19 if they repeatedly interact with cold-chain products containing coronavirus traces.

Officials added that the risk of consumers getting infected from cold chain food products remains very low.

China has increased its frozen food testing at ports, as the country claims to repeatedly find COVID-19 coronavirus traces on imported food products and packaging. This has resulted in mass scale testing of food and related workers, as well as imposed suspension of imports and trade flow disruptions.
