Danish investors to develop pig sector in Leningrad Region

Danish investors will develop small pig breeding complexes in the Leningrad Region.

The complexes will have a production capacity of 5,000 tonnes to 15,000 tonnes of meat per year, said Sergey Yakhnyuk, vice governor of the region.

Pig stock of the region had increased 43 percent and exceeded 100,500 head in the first 10 months of 2008, though private farms reported a 20-percent decrease in stock.

The further development of pig breeding in Leningrad Region is largely linked to foreign investments, said Yakhnyuk.
