Hungary's 2011 corn harvests up 15%

Hungary's corn output reached 8.06 million tonnes in 2011, 15% more than last year, the Agriculture Ministry said on Thursday (Nov 24).

It said the final corn crop yield was 6.63 tonnes per hectare, 2% higher on-year.

The ministry said autumn wheat was planted to 1.1 million hectares and autumn barley to 177,000 hectares, both higher than in the previous season, but a lack of rainfall hindered the development of the crops.
