US cattle on feed jumps 4%

 

 

On November 1, cattle and calves on feed for slaughter market in the US for feedlots with capacity of 1,000 or more head totalled 11.9 million head at 4% higher on-year, reports the USDA.

 

This is the second-highest November 1 inventory since the series began in 1996.

 

During October, placements in feedlots totalled 2.49million, 1% below 2010. Net placements were 2.40million head. During October, placements of cattle and calves weighing less than 600pounds were 805,000; 600 to 699 pounds were 600,000; 700 to 799 pounds were 501,000; and 800 pounds and greater were 585,000.

 

Marketings of fed cattle during October totalled 1.79million, 3% above 2010. Other disappearance totalled 93,000 during October, 50% above 2010.
