Danish Crown faces backlog of pigs, puts new suppliers on waiting list

Danish Crown was a week behind on pig pickups and will place new suppliers on a waiting list, the company said this month.

Problems in selling Danish piglets for export, due to African swine fever (ASF) in Germany and Poland, have resulted in an increase in Danish pigs for slaughter at a time when Danish Crown's slaughter capacity is already full.

The company is currently facing a one-week backlog of pigs from its current suppliers. At the same time, the number of pig farmers who wish to send their pigs for slaughter at its facilities is increasing.

Given the situation, the company has had to reintroduce a waiting list for the admission of new suppliers.
