Japan's September compound feed output hikes 2.1% on-year
The total compound feed output of Japan grew 2.1% in September to 1.998 million tonnes, increasing on-year for the second month in a row, the Agriculture Ministry said Friday (Nov 18).
Japan, which produces very little corn of its own, is the world's biggest importer of corn, the main ingredient of animal feed; the US is the top supplier.
Japan's produces around 24.5 million tonnes of compound feed annually. Feed output slipped 7% in April due to the effects of the March 11 earthquake and tsunami but recovered from June.
