Chile Jan-Sep fish industry exports gain 6.8 percent on-year to US$1.29 billion
Chile's ocean fishing industry exports totalled US$1.29 billion in January through September, up 6.8 percent from the same period a year ago, industry association Sonapesca said Thursday (November 20).
In terms of volume, fishing industry exports totalled 709,068 tonnes in the nine-month period, down 11 percent from the same period a year ago.
Fishmeal exports accounted for 56 percent of the sector's exports, or 393,262 tonnes, up 2 percent from the 2007 period.
In terms of value, fishmeal exports during the period fell 8.4 percent on the year to US$407.4 million, Sonapesca added.
International fishmeal prices fell 9.9 percent on the year in the nine-month period, the industry group reported, to US$1,036 a tonne.
Sonapesca doesn't report on farmed salmon or trout exports.
