Pilgrim's Pride to cut jobs
East Texas based Pilgrim's Pride is axing about 335 employees by the end of the month.
US's largest chicken producer wants to reduce costs amid a slumping operating environment.
The Pittsburg-based company says the layoff comprises about one percent of its total work force. The retrenchment will involve salaried, and non-salaried positions and have been divided among nearly all of the company's 36 locations.
Pilgrim's Pride is burdened by debt due to last year's $1.3 billion acquisition of rival Gold Kist.
The company is notifying affected workers this week.
Pilgrim's Pride has made other layoffs this year, including 700 cuts at a plant in El Dorado, Arkansas.
