Avepar to kick off poultry slaughter operation in December

Meatpacking company Aves do Parque (Avepar) will begin in the first half of December its first poultry slaughter in its meatpacking facility located in Abelardo Luz, Santa Catarina, Brazil.

The company is expected to process 150,000 chickens per day in the first half of 2009, with capacity rising to 200,000 chickens per day by the end of 2009, said businessman Celso Mattiolo.

The facility was successfully rebuilt after it was nearly destroyed by fire last December. The facility had attracted an investment sum of US$13.2 million.

The meatpacking facility is ready for international certification as installations were designed to meet standards of the EU and of the Muslim countries, the latter of which require Halal slaughter, said Mattiolo.
