Philippines grain production increases
Philippine grain production has increased, having recovered from the dry spell in 2010, according to the agriculture department.
Corn output has also increased by 15.96 % to 5.48 million tonnes. Overall, Philippines farm sector grew by 4.28 % on year in the first nine months of this year.
The Bureau of Agricultural Statistics (BAS) disclosed that the crops subsector, which accounted for half of total agricultural production, grew by 9.04%.
BAS said the crops subsector's performance shows that it has fully recovered from the effects of the 2010 long dry spell.
The increase in grain production was attributed to increases in yield and adequate rainfall in key rice and corn growing regions including Cagayan Valley, Western Visayas, Southern Luzon and Southern Mindanao.
