Astarta expects grain, oilseed production to increase twofold

Astarta Holding NV (AST), a Ukrainian agricultural company announced that the production of grain and oilseeds will almost double this year because of an increase in planted areas and good yields.

Astarta will produce 650,000 tonnes of grains and oilseeds this year, 97% more than a year ago, the company. Planting areas increased 14% to 240,000 hectares in 2011.

Sugar beet harvest will increase by 59% to 2.1 million tonnes, the company said. Production of refined sugar will increase 75% to 350,000 tonnes this year.

Milk output rose in the first nine months of the year by 28% to 50,000 tonnes, according to the statement.
