Bird flu found in central Vietnam

A bird flu outbreak has been confirmed in the central Vietnamese province of Nghe An, said local newspaper Liberty Saigon on Wednesday (Nov 13, 2008).

The outbreak was discovered at Dien Hong commune, where the disease killed nearly 1,000 birds. Samples from the dead birds tested positive to the H5N1 bird flu strain.

The local authority has established a zone around the outbreak area to prevent the virus from spreading. Consumption and sales of poultry and poultry products within the zone are banned.
