Lowest September volume for UK's pork imports in more than a decade
UK's pork imports had sunk by 7% year-on-year in September 2015 to their lowest volume for the month in more than a decade, AHDB Pork said.
Figures by HMRC revealed imports dropping to 28,700 tonnes while September's import value dipped by 21% year-on-year. Denmark, the UK's biggest pork supplier, delivered 6% less in the month, and Germany at 9% lower.
The trends reflected a highly satisfied demand in the UK, AHDB Pork explained.
On the other hand, UK's pork exports for September increased slightly year-on-year to 17,900 tonnes, with growth headed by deliveries to Denmark.
However, the value for UK pork exports dropped 11% year-on-year in September, to US$28.5 million. Nevertheless, the amount is still the "highest exports' value since October 2014", said AHDB Pork.
