South Korea reports H5N8 bird flu among wild birds
South Korea's Agriculture Ministry said it has detected the highly pathogenic H5N8 bird flu among samples collected from wild birds in Cheonan-si, Chungcheongnam-do, central west of the country and 84 km from Seoul, Reuters reported.
The ministry has issued an avian influenza warning because of the risk that virus spreading, as well as implementing prevention measures to contain the spread of bird flu.
Kim Hyeon-soo, South Korea's Agriculture Minister, said farms must implement quarantine measures and conduct daily disinfecting, as migratory wild birds can spread the virus.
The discovery of bird flu in South Korea follows recent outbreaks of the virus in the Netherlands, Germany and the UK.
