Hung Nhon Group and Olmix partner to develop halal-compliant livestock production chain
Hung Nhon Group, a major Vietnamese agricultural corporation, and France's Olmix Group signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in Hanoi, Vietnam, for a cooperative programme aimed at developing a production and supply chain for livestock and poultry products that adhere to halal standards.
The collaboration will focus on connecting and advancing the production chain, allowing Hung Nhon Group and its affiliates to invest in high-tech, high-value projects targeting the export market with halal-compliant agricultural products.
Under this MoU, Olmix will provide poultry vaccines and veterinary technical services to support disease control in livestock farms. These measures are expected to improve economic efficiency and support comprehensive health care for livestock and pets.
Olmix will supply Hung Nhon with poultry vaccines developed by Germany's Boehringer Ingelheim (BI), a major manufacturer with facilities in the US, Italy, and France. The poultry vaccines are designed to prevent common diseases, reduce antibiotic use in livestock, and lower both antibiotic resistance and residues in meat and eggs, contributing to food safety standards.
In addition to vaccines, Olmix will offer Hung Nhon advanced veterinary services. These include diagnostic testing by Vipha Lab, ongoing health monitoring, poultry flock testing, and VTS vaccination equipment, all of which aim to increase vaccination productivity and reduce stress for livestock.
The partnership will also extend to training, with Olmix contributing to the development of skilled workers and veterinarians for the sector.
Robert Clapham, CEO of Olmix Group, highlighted the significance of the Vietnamese market. "Vietnam is currently Olmix's second-largest market globally, and we are proud to have chosen Vietnam as our Asian headquarters. We believe this partnership with Hung Nhon will further solidify our presence in Vietnam."
Hung Nhon Group's chairman and vice president of the Vietnam Digital Agriculture Association (VIDA), Vu Manh Hung, expressed confidence in Olmix's expertise. He noted Olmix's experience in producing and distributing veterinary medicines, aquatic products, and feed additives, including leading brands like Boehringer Ingelheim, Dopharma, and Biopharm.
"The products distributed by Olmix, including high-tech vaccines, disinfectants, and veterinary medicines, are optimal solutions for disease control in livestock farms, supporting both economic efficiency and livestock health," said Hung.
Vietnam's Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien, present at the signing ceremony, expressed appreciation for Hung Nhon's strategic collaboration with Olmix. "The use of quality vaccines from Olmix will help ensure food hygiene, export standards, and especially compliance with halal requirements," said Tien.
Gabor Fluit, group CEO of Royal De Heus, added insight from his experience in the livestock industry. Fluit highlighted disease control as a key challenge for farmers and affirmed that vaccines play a critical role in raising survival rates, minimising antibiotic use, and reducing production costs.
"In recent years, epidemics have posed serious threats to livestock. Vaccines are essential for mitigating these risks and supporting a stable breeding stock supply," Fluit remarked.
Hung Nhon Group, originally a small-scale chicken farm, has grown into a multi-sector corporation with expertise in large-scale livestock farming. The company applies advanced technology with a closed process from breeding to slaughtering under ISO and Global GAP standards. Hung Nhon currently operates 17 member companies and a joint venture with De Heus, managing high-tech agricultural projects across the Central Highlands and Tay Ninh.
Olmix Group, specialising in animal and plant care, operates in 100 countries with manufacturing sites in Europe, America, and Asia. In 2023, Olmix reported a turnover of 200 million euros with a workforce of over 900 employees. Having operated in Vietnam for over 20 years, Olmix employs 200 staff members across 50 provinces and cities.
