Philippines eyes export of 'pork in a box' to Dubai, Singapore

The Philippines' Department of Agriculture (DA) in Region 12 on Mindanao island plans to export cut pork and meat products to overseas Filipino workers in Dubai and Singapore.

DA Region 12's executive director, Amalia Jayag-Datukan, said, according to news reports, that they had identified Dubai in the United Arab Emirates and Singapore as potential export destinations for the region's pork products, particularly the packaged "pork-in-a-box," a manner by which meat is transported   "in-boxes" rather than "on-hoof."

Datukan told a local TV programme that Region 12 was the number one producer of "pork-in-a-box" in the Philippines.

Region 12 producers have been regularly shipping "pork-in-a-box" products to Manila, Cebu and other market centres in the country.

"We want our pork-in-a-box products to also reach the foreign markets just like our premium rice," she said, referring to the organic rice products that are being exported by the region to Dubai and Hong Kong.
