Vietnam, CP Group sign MoU to advance sustainable agriculture through public-private partnership

Vietnam's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), along with CP Group, CP. Vietnam, and the Partnership for Sustainable Agriculture Development Vietnam (PSAV), signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on November 1, 2024, which aims to drive the transformation of Vietnam's food system towards greater transparency, responsibility, and sustainability.

The MoU represents a milestone in building sustainable agriculture in Vietnam, highlighting the collaborative approach between government and business sectors.

"Cooperation in the form of a PPP is an important strategy that creates new driving forces for the agricultural industry. I appreciate CP Vietnam's participation in the PPP working group on livestock, particularly its support for enhancing the capacities of farmers and partners within the livestock value chain," said Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan.

The minister further noted the crucial role businesses play in advancing the sustainability of the agricultural sector.

Adirek Sripratak, vice chairman of CP Group, expressed the company's commitment to this initiative, saying, "The group will try its best to achieve optimal outcomes for the company, the country, and the people in a sustainable way."

Montri Suwanposri, vice chairman of CP Vietnam, emphasised the responsibility shared by all stakeholders in addressing agricultural challenges. "Boosting sustainable agricultural development, raising the value of supply chains, improving farmers' lives, reducing emissions, and responding to climate change have become responsibilities for all parties to achieve specific goals," Suwanposri stated.

The MoU was signed and exchanged under the witness of MARD and PSAV members. Signatories included Pawalit Ua-Amornwanit, CEO of CP Vietnam; Nguyen Do Anh Tuan, Director General of MARD's International Cooperation Department; and a representative from PSAV.

A highlight of the cooperation will involve the promotion of OCOP (One Commune One Product) items. With CP Group's extensive agricultural experience and distribution network, the collaboration with PSAV will support the development of human resources in rural areas through Thailand's OTOP (One Tambon One Product) and Vietnam's OCOP programmes. This initiative will also foster trade exchange and cooperation at both national and regional levels.

The partnership includes support for pilot projects, such as establishing OCOP learning centres and community markets, which will also integrate community tourism, with a particular focus on promoting young members' participation.

Through shared initiatives and communication efforts, both parties aim to drive the transformation of Vietnam's food system towards a transparent, responsible, and sustainable model.

By combining their experience, resources, and vision, MARD, CP Group, and PSAV seek to address agricultural challenges, improve rural livelihoods, and create a sustainable agricultural ecosystem that benefits producers and consumers alike.

PSAV operates under MARD, comprising PPP working group members and stakeholders who volunteer to support sustainable agricultural development in Vietnam.
