Western Australian wheat cultivators warned of decreasing prices

Western Australian wheat cultivators are being counselled to have some price protection against low protein grain falling prices.

Moist late growing conditions are expected to produce low protein in many areas.

A consultant said she expects prices to weaken.

"You cannot change the crop, but what you can do is start protecting prices at these levels, because I think they are only going to get worse," he said.

"We have already got massive, you know, four million tonnes of feed wheat carried over in the eastern states from last year.

"It is going to be an absolute miracle for grades below APW, if the price becomes any better at all."
