Australia leads among global beef exporters
Australia is running for the title of the largest global beef exporter, and is slightly ahead of production giants like Brazil and the US.
By the end of August, Australia exported 611,605 tonnes (shipped weight) of beef, while the US shipped 592,588 tonnes and Brazil 535,727 tonnes, Meat and Livestock Australia reported.
Analysis takes into account monthly chilled and frozen beef and veal exports only.
A rising middle class in Brazil and a strengthening currency were the main reasons for its decline in the export stakes.
Last year, Brazil took out the title, shipping a total of 951,225 tonnes compared to Australia's 922,833 tonnes.
